Thoughts on River Sprite
River Sprite runs today at Newcastle in the 8.00. Adam McNamara is in the irons for the one mile handicap and the pair are drawn in stall 2. The filly steps up in trip as we attempt to get her back towards the promising start she made to her career as a two year old.
There isn’t a lot of consistent form on offer in this race, with some fairly exposed sorts, Scots Sonnet has run well enough over ten on recent starts and is at least in form although the drop back probably isn’t in his favour. G is for Gabriel ran well last time, he has been slipping down the grades and is probably the main danger here. Jervaulx is lightly raced and trying the shortest trip he has contested yet, if that suits he could well be a danger.
River Sprite is by Swiss Spirit out of the Forest Camp mare, Camp Riverside. She will be led up today by Ilse Belien and overseen by Shaun John. The filly races for owner breeder Fiona Denniff and the Diskovery Partnership, a syndicate personally managed by Daniel and Claire.
