Thoughts on Rosaceous at Doncaster today
Rosaceous makes her seasonal reappearance in the 8.05 at Doncaster this evening. Steve Drowne takes the ride in the mile handicap for fillies. Rosaceous has done well over the winter and filled her frame. She has had a minor interruption to her preparation and will come on a little for the run. Rosaceous has always threatened to deliver a bit more than she has on the track to date, she has often travelled very well in her races and her optimum trip remains open to debate. Given these two factors we’ve decided a drop back to a mile is a good starting point, with a view to going a bit further next time.
The race is quite an open affair. Cosseted has some good form over the distance in the conditions given her owners one suspects that there is a feeling there is more to come. There are also a couple lightly raced improving horses near the bottom of the weights who are open to quite a bit of improvement notably Trixie Malone and Burnt Fingers. While Vanity Rules has also been tried at a higher level and has shown the ability to get competitive in this. Cosmic Halo might find the trip a bit sharp but is a consistent mare at this level.
