Thoughts on Salamanca Lad
Salamanca Lad has his first run since joining the yard in the 3.50 at Southwell on Sunday afternoon. David Egan will partner the three year old gelding in the mile handicap. He races for Fellowship Racing & The Diskovery Partnership.
The team at Fellowship Racing like ourselves are very interested in the data analytics side of racing. We were looking for a horse at last years horses in training sales that based on data it might be possible to find improvement by changing the distance the horse was racing over. Salamanca Lad fit the bill, having already won over six furlongs his stride patterns suggest that going over further might be a positive, as did a traditional race reading analysis of his form. So the big experiment begins. Mentally he has appeared to be a horse that lacks focus in his work, hence the addition of cheekpieces. As with all horses data analysis will only get you so far and horsemanship is still key.
Race Analysis
The race looks pretty open. Just Rita made a solid start to her handicap career in slightly higher grade of race ad will probably appreciate the extra furlong. Desert Raider has already one two handicaps and been running well at this level. Has joined new connections. Cuban Fiesta has his first run in a handicap having had a winter to strengthen and gets an extra couple of furlongs.
Salamanca Lad will be led up by Epona Miller who rides and cares for the gelding at home. If you would like to join one of our in house partnerships take a look at the horses for sale page. There are a couple of options at the moment. Including a two year to race for the Diskovery Partnership called Echo of Glory. Echo of Glory is a strong two year old colt with a speedy pedigree. There are 5% or 10% shares available.
