Thoughts on Saturday’s runners

Covenant heads to the 5.25 at Newmarket on Saturday afternoon, July 25th. Richard Kingscote rides in the one mile and five furlong handicap for three year olds. Covenant has progressed with each of his three starts in maidens and should continue as the season goes on. The step up in trip ought to play to his strengths as he has been doing his best work towards the end of his races thus far in his career. He seems versatile as far as ground goes and should handle the soft conditions that look likely to prevail.

Its a tight little contest with all six runners able to have some claim to a chance. Rosenbaum has shown very good form on the all weather but to date is yet to achieve the same level on turf. Fibre Optic’s most recent run suggested that this step up in trip would be ideal, despite his pedigree indicating otherwise. Europa has the least experience and could also enjoy tackling this trip for the first time.

Outrage goes to Salisbury for the 7.15 in the evening. Timmy Murphy takes the ride on the three year old colt in the six furlong maiden. Outrage is a strong colt who makes his racecourse debut. He will benefit greatly from this experience and is the only un-raced participant. He is a full brother to Outdo who has developed into a very good sprinter over the last couple of seasons and one would expect this horse to improve in a similar manner. The forecast give in the ground is probably not ideal but it will be good for him to get some experience of the racecourse at this stage as there aren’t that many sprint maidens at this time of year available to three year olds.

Ice Lord and Holland Park set a decent standard on their best form although both have proved a bit inconsistent. Tap Shoes improved from first to second start and if going on again is another that should run to a useful level.

Outrage.
