Thoughts on Sniper Viper at Thirsk

Sniper Viper makes the long trip to Thirsk this afternoon for the 3.05 (Saturday, May the 6th). This filly is a bit of a pet project, she was bought very cheaply as she was born with only one eye. However, she is a strong looking filly with a bit of pedigree so we thought worth giving a chance to. The reasons for going to Thirsk are two fold, firstly she’s a filly that needs confidence and the field is small (just four runners) and secondly they race up the right hand rail in the straight course races and she needs that as her natural instinct is to go to the right when at high speed (in order to run into the space she can see on that side rather than into her blind spot). She was very green last year on her sole run but should show more today. Her home work has been better since returning from a break and Tony Hamilton has done a fantastic job on his rare rides for the yard. We’ll be looking for the filly to enjoy her race and take a forward step.

The race looks a match between Savannah’s Dream who showed plenty of ability as a two year old (second at Royal Ascot). Assuming she has trained on and is ready to roll on her first run of the year she should have the beating of Liquid who is a decent horse in his own right having twice been runner up in maidens and with recent runs under his belt. The final runner Yorkshire Rover would have to be pretty smart to win this as a debutant.
