Thoughts on Socrates at Salisbury today

Socrates runs at Salisbury this afternoon in the 5.15 (Sunday June 18th). Raymond Dawson rides in the apprentice handicap over a mile. Socrates hated the soft ground on his seasonal reappearance and was a bit revved up in the early part of the race. He will get his preferred faster ground this afternoon and should be more sensible now that first run of the year is out of the way.

The race looks pretty competitive with several lightly raced improving types going into battle. Quite a few of them are trying the trip for the first time and with quite a few likely to improve for that extra distance. Halinka in particular has looked like this extra furlong would make all the difference on her two most recent runs. Scala Regia is another who has run as if the extra furlong would see her in a better light. All that said Ashazuri has gone well in stronger looking races and looks the one they will have to improve past.
