Thoughts on Spoonful Of Sugar
Spoonful Of Sugar makes her debut tomorrow (Friday 30th April) at Goodwood in the 1:35. The two year old filly is partnered with Callum Shepherd for the five furlong Novice Stakes. They are drawn in stall 6. Spoonful relishes her work at home and has been very professional in her development to date. As our first two year old runner of the year it will give us a better idea as to where they are as a group. Spoonful of Sugar has the ability and critically the right attitude to be winning races.
Whether Spoonful of Sugar is up to winning tomorrow depends largely how good her rivals are. Lady Dollars sets the standard having been third on debut, the others with experience would all need to take a fair step forward. The form of Canonized’s race is working out well and the time was useful for an early season race so she probably offers the most encouragement on that front. Of the debutants Rosa Mystica and Ard Up both have the sort of pedigree required to be effective as early season two year olds.
Spoonful Of Sugar was bred by Aston Mullins Stud and is owned by Simon Hope and Stephen Barrow. She is by Exceed and Excel, out of the Henrythenavigator filly, Sagres. Spoonful of Sugar will be led up by Michael Coles and overseen by Alice Roberts.
