Thoughts on the first runner of the year, Karnage.
Karnage runs in the 5.10 at Kempton today. Luke Morris maintains his partnership with the gelding in the one mile three handicap. The gelding has been knocking on the door of late and steps up a furlong in trip. He should stay the trip but the main reason for choosing this race is we feel that the longer straight over this distance at Kempton will play to his strengths.
In race with a few horses that have a bit to prove its probably wise to play close attention to the more lightly raced types and those running for new connections. Bamako Du Chatelet is certainly the type who looks as if this trip will suit him and doesn’t look badly treated by the handicapper based on his second run for different connections when in Ireland. Altaira was used as a pacemaker the mighty Treve in the past and makes his frist start for his new British yard and its hard to gauge how his form fits into this race. I’m Harry is the horse whose form is a easier to get a read on who looks the most obvious threat, he wasn’t suited by the slow pace to the race that hindered those who came from behind in Karnage’s last race according to his trainer, although the winner on that occasion did also come from off the pace.
