Thoughts on Thewaythewindblows at Wolverhampton this evening

Thewaythewindblows returns to action at Wolverhampton in the 8.00. Thomas Brown is in the saddle in the mile and half a furlong nursery handicap. Thomas was riding when Thewaythewindblows won his third start in a maiden at Southwell. On that occasion he ran over seven furlongs but this step up in trip should hold no fears for him as he was doing all his best work towards the end of the race that day. He came back from Southwell with a sore foot having lost a shoe in the build up to the race. Whilst the racecourse farrier and the team did a great job of remedying the problem in the short term so that he could run, the downside was that it took a while for the issue to settle down after the race and we missed a bit of training with him hence the absence since.  He is quite a laid back horse at home and only really does what is asked of him so its difficult to gauge how much he has really come on since, given the absence there may be just a little bit more fitness to come still for the run. The surface should suit him.

The race is quite open with most of the horses pretty unexposed – it would be foolhardy to discount any of the runners, particularly as nearly all of them are running over further than they have been. Andretti who won his first nursery sets the standard racing from just three pounds higher and should improve again over this longer trip. Invincible Wish improved when stepped up to seven furlongs to win a lower grade nursery than this, at the course and a further step up in trip could see yet more improvement. Nursery debutant Siren’s Cove is bred to appreciate racing over further than she has done so far and is another threat within the field.
