Thoughts on three runners at Chelmsford
After a quite spell on the runners front we send three out this evening at Chelmsford (Thursday February 9th).
First up is Av a Word in the 6.25. Adam Kirby was keen to retain the ride in the ten furlong handicap, following his last run over course and distance. He has shown gradual improvement on the racecourse again showed a bit more improvement when finishing very strongly when Adam pulled him out of the pack and came wide down the straight. He travelled much better when not intimidated by the other horses hence we put on the blinkers this evening which will restrict his field of vision and hopefully give him the confidence to go and win his race.
La Vie En Rose looks the obvious horse in the race following her second place over a course and distance three weeks ago. A race in which Av a Word filled fourth spot. Babouska has very similar form having got the better of the winner in the aforementioned race when the pair met over the extended nice furlongs at Wolverhampton and may not have been suited by a drop back in trip subsequently. Girlofinkandstars looks a potential improver on handicap debut over this longer trip as she is out of a dam that won over as far as two miles.
In the 7.00 Seneca Chief makes his racecourse debut. George Downing is on board for the five furlong maiden. He has done some nice work at home and should make up into a decent sprinter in due course. He isn’t the fastest of learners so we would expect him to gain plenty from his debut.
Red Alert sets a standard with his rating of 74 in this contest, and whilst Fantasy Keeper probably didn’t have to show that level of form when runner up on his second start more improvement can be expected. The intriguing runner is Lostock who ran with enough promise on debut in a very strong maiden last April is from a strong family that boast several good sprinters and if the cause of his long absence isn’t a problem looks the most likely winner. Keep an eye out for the well bred Wishing Time who may offer more than on her tame debut.
At 7.30 Outrage bids to open his account over 6 furlongs having been successful over the minimum trip four times in 2016. George Baker who won on him in heart stopping style at Haydock last summer is in the plate for the geldings first run of the year. He looks great at home after a month away from the track following a busy December. A strong pace is key to any race Outrage runs in as he loves coming through horses late in the piece.
A decent race that is an intriguing contest cases could be made for several. Boomerang Bob is interesting on the pick of his form and has been in decent heart of late posting several good efforts in this grade and over this trips probably sets the standard. Shamshon is an intriguing runner on his first run for a new yard. He was last seen four months ago winning on the turf, certainly he would go very close with a repeat of that sort of form. If you whittle down Eljaddaaf’s record down to just his all weather runs over six furlongs he has been very progressive. He is unbeaten the last five times he has run over six furlongs on the all weather, however this is quite a lot stronger than any of those contests.
