Thoughts on three runners

Three runners this evening split between Lingfield and Leicester,

Disapproval – 6.50 Lingfield, Tom Queally

Disapproval had a nice debut at Brighton and learned plenty that day. She showed plenty of pace but didn’t quite get home over six furlongs that day so we have dropped back to the sharp five here at Lingfield. Her mother won the corresponding race for the Diskovery syndicate and was our first two year old winner. She has a decent draw in 12.

The race looks competitive with Take Shelter the obvious starting point based on her five furlong fast ground form. She was however disappointing on her most recent start, admittedly over six furlongs on softer ground, she also has a tough draw to overcome so isn’t a certain thing. Jonnysimpson has the early pace and a good draw from which to exploit that asset and has run two encouraging races and looks the biggest danger. Hunni likewise is well drawn and ran much better than the final result shows and will be suited by this drop back a furlong. Three Little Birds should once again be in the mix after three consistent runs.

Nuncio – 8.20 Lingfield, Tom Queally

Nuncio made an nice debut for they yard over a mile first time out and drops back more because this looks a good opportunity than anything, he should be able to mix and match over seven and a mile going forward. He’s nicely drawn and this looks a good opportunity for him to try and break his maiden.

Nuncio’s main rival will be Margherita who has been consistent in her maidens and is rated 75, two pounds higher than Nuncio. Anything else will have to show a fair amount of improvement to get competitive based on what they have done so far on the racecourse.

I Wouldn’t Bother – 9.10 Leicester, Tom Marquand

I Wouldn’t Bother was keen on his seasonal reappearance, he travelled and showed up well for a long way on the soft ground at Carlisle, which is a stiff enough track anyway. He paid for his early exuberance late on and faded in the final stages. We have dispensed with the blinkers and dropped back in trip.

The race looks pretty open with quite a few having a bit to prove. The Big Short has demonstrated the ability to win at this level but has also run poorly more than once so can’t be seen as reliable. Maggi May and Majestic Stone probably set the standard. The drop in grade is in favour of Lambrini Legacy, whilst the drop back in trip looks ideal for Defining Moment.
