Thoughts on Todays Runners
Two Runners today
Diamante – 3.15 Brighton, George Downing
Diamante took a step forward on her handicap debut at Beverley but, didn’t really get the run of the race. She was trapped wide and didn’t entirely convince that she got home over a mile and a half. The ground was fairly testing that day and its a stiff old finish at Beverley, we’d like to think that a mile and a half is within her compass at some point, however we have dropped back to ten today to make sure she sees out her race today. The track is always a concern until they have been around it.
The race is a difficult one to analyse with several handicap debutantes attempting a new trip and its difficult to know which if any will benefit the most from this approach. Of those with a bit more form in the book Sublime probably sets the standard in these conditions.
Av A Word – 9.00 Windsor, George Downing
Av A Word is a bit enigmatic and was disappointing over nine furlongs last week having won over ten on his previous start, he tries eleven today, which should be fine (he has been second over a mile and a half in a higher grade race). He is a horse that needs things to go his way, he likes a bit of space to run in, and also runs in snatches. Its the first time George is on board him and hopefully the pair take to each other because there is certainly an element of him being suited by certain riders and not others.
Of those with more established form Deleyll looks the obvious danger to Av A Word and the pair set the standard for the others to aim at. Light Gunner has stepped forward with each start and could well find enough improvement again here to get competitive, it is however once again the handicap debutants who might pose the biggest threat with Beyond Beyond sure to appreciate the extra distance being the most obvious.
