Thoughts on Today’s runners
We have two runners today (Tuesday 23rd October), both running at Kempton. Outrage kicks things off at 8.10, ridden by George Downing in the 6 furlong handicap contest. Outrage won well last time out at Newcastle over five and has now won six times. He is yet to win over six but was beaten just a head over a course and distance two start and although this is a slightly better contest he should remain competitive.
Related has been disappointing at higher grades recently but the drop in class should see him involved, similar comments apply to Smokey Lane who has had very little all weather racing. Rose Berry is consistent at this sort of level and probably sets the standard.
Sploosh runs at 9.10. George Downing also rides the 3 year old in the one mile and a half handicap. He has looked as if the extra distance he gets here following three qualifying runs over a mile will suit him. He wasn’t disgraced in novices but it’s a different type of race taking on experienced handicappers.
The race is particularly difficult and contains several lightly raced performers such as Tinsmith who steps into handicap company who can find improvement still. There are also several with a mixed profile who if on one of their better days ought to go close. Buckland Boy fits the latter category well and gelding may result in a more focused horse. Sky Rocket probably sets the standard here if reproducing reconnect performances alongside Cristal Spirit who may eke out a bit of improvement in headgear.
