Thoughts on Today’s Runners

Sarsen Farm sends out two runners today (Saturday 28th September). First up is Involved at Chester in the 3.20pm. After the abandonment of Haydock Richard Kingscote replaces Paul Hanagan in the irons for the 1m 2f Handicap. Richard was successful together with Inolved last time out over course and distance from the same draw today as he had last time (five). The soft going is an unknown but he should handle it, a lot of his relatives have been seen at their best on softer surfaces.

Involved winning at Chester on 14th September

This is a step up in grade and Involved meets Scofflaw once again. Involved held off a late challenge from his rival last time. Global Gift is a danger if seeing out the longer trip for the first time. Owner Marwan Koukash loves a winner at Chester and his two runners could both have a chance today.

Involved is a son of Havana Gold, out of Sanfield Stud’s star broodmare Trick or Treat. The gelding was bred by Peter Onslow and Ann Harrison at the stud. Peter has races the gelding together with Gary and Lesley Middlebrook. Peter and Ann breed some real tough racehorses and has a well above average winners to foals ratio. We were visited the stud recently and their yearlings look another exciting crop of future winners.

Involved will be led up by Ilse Belien and overseen by Travelling Manager Shaun Johnson.

King’s Counsel runs in the 7.50pm at Chelmsford City. Josephine Gordon rides him in the 1m 5f Novice Stakes. Kings Counsel is a scopey son of Camelot who had a run in the spring for a bit of experience and was given the summer off to mature. From a family that improves with age he has developed and should show more today.

King’s Counsel working at home

Three runner races can be tricky affairs and King’s Counsel face two decent rivals in Swift Wing and Holy Kingdom who have a fair bit of experience and a similar level of ability. It is likely to become a tactical affair and may come down to jockeyship rather than raw ability.

King’s Counsel is by Camelot, out of Love Everlasting, who is a group 3 winner, and is half brother to 5 flat winners, including Covenant who won over a mile and a quarter when trained by us before being sold to Australia where he was succeful. King’s Counsel’s half sister Acquainted has bred Furrion who is also by Camelot who has been very successful in Australia. King’s Counsel is owned and was bred by Gary and Lesley Middlebrook.

King’s Counsel will be led up by Andy Williams, who also rides him at home.
