Thoughts on todays runners
Two runners at Wolverhampton today (Monday 29th of February). Amor Invicto is first up in the 2.50. Kimberley Van der Vegt takes the ride in the six furlong maiden. Amor has had his fair share of bad luck. After crossing the line in third on his debut at Salisbury he was disqualified when his jockey failed to weigh in. On his second start he was drawn widest of all in a big field at Chelmsford and got bumped turning for home and finally he managed to pull muscles behind when the ground went soft before his run at Catterick on his last run. Gelded and given a break since his last appearance 167 days ago he may just need this run.
That said this doesn’t look a particularly strong maiden and anything capable of running to a mark better than around seventy ought to be very competitive as Cee Jay and Spirit Grace have had plenty of goes. The alternatives are unraced or haven’t shown a whole lot to date.
Bailiwick runs in the 5.00 with Luke Morris up in the extended mile handicap. He hasn’t been far away in most of his runs this winter without ever quite quite getting the job done. Most of his racing has been over seven and this is the furthest he has run but he ran well enough over a mile at Chelmsford in November to believe the extra 100 yards should be ok. The form of his last run has worked out well with the third going on to win and the winner finishing second behind a well handicapped horse on their next starts.
The race looks the easiest race Bailwick has encountered this winter with the main dangers looking like McDelta and La Havrese.
