Thoughts on Today’s Runners
Sarsen Farm sends two runners to Wolverhampton this evening. First up, Lovers’ Gait bids to make it three from three since joining the yard in the 7.35. The filly is partnered by Liam Keniry who has been aboard for both her victories. Lovers’ Gait is drawn in stall five. Its her first start on an all weather surface but she trains on it every day and having although this is tougher then her two wins to date she should remain very competitive in what looks an open race.
Lover’s Gait probably sets the standard here as the only previous winner of a class five contest, however the race features several very lightly raced types stepping up in trip with potential to improve. El Salvaje might be the most likely type of those. Alpine Mistral also comes here seeking a hat-trick and is a danger, those were weaker contest than the ones Lovers’ Gait won but but she did it nicely and is respected.
Lovers’ Gait is owned by Simon Hope and Steven Barrow. The filly is by Gleneagles out of the Statue of Liberty mare, Liberally. Lovers’ Gait will be led up by Billie Portwin who is regular work rider at home.
Our second runner of the day is Chamomile in the 8.35. The filly is partnered with Liam Keniry and the pair are drawn in stall 9. Chamomile steps up in distance to a mile and three quarters from ten furlongs, which is quite a jump, but she has missed a couple of intended engagements over a mile and a half for various reasons including going since her last run and we were keen to get a run into her over this trip at some stage. We have added a hood to help her settle as she tackles the longer distance.
Elhafei looks the horse to beat here, he had a solid second over course and distance earlier in the season in a better race before following up with a win at Lingfield. He has run respectably since in tougher assignments and sets a solid standard for the rest to aim at. Mousebird might give him the most to think about.
Chamomile will be led up today by Ilse Belien. She is by Teofilo, out of the Dubawi mare, Al Joza. The filly races for Gary and Lesley Middlebrook and will most likely be added to their broodmare band. To find out more how we work with breeders, visit the link below.
