Thoughts on todays runners
Two runners this afternoon at Lingfield, both of whom were second over course and distance on their penultimate starts. Richard Kingscote who currently leads the all weather jockeys championship is aboard both. In the 12.40 River Sprite bids is up in grade a touch as the result of her first attempt at ten furlongs at the track. She didn’t get much luck when too far back in a race after getting a wide draw at Chelmsford since then also over the mile and a quarter. She looks better suited to this trip and there could be more to come.
The key rivals look to be Voi and Ruby Red Empress who were second and fourth in a similar race over course and distance eleven days ago. Voi has been consistent and is more than capable of winning at this level, but Ruby Red Empress is lightly raced at ten furlongs and and was a touch unlucky on her first start for new connections last time out and could reverse that form today. Born to Sire probably brings the best alternative strand of recent form and should not be discounted on the basis of filling the runners up spot on his last two starts.
River Sprite is by Swiss Spirit, out of the Forest Camp mare, Camp Riverside. The filly races for the Diskovery Partnership and owner/breeder Fiona Denniff. She will be led up by Ilse Belien.
Outrage comes here for the 3.35 after finishing runner up on his last three starts, and deserves to win a race as its been a while between drinks and he has done little wrong recently. In a small field it looks a tight contest. There wouldn’t be a lot between Outrage and fellow veteran Verne Castle. Shamshon, another old timer with some classy back form has found the winning thread again of late but that was at a lower level than this and he needs to show more to get competitive. Pop Dancer can be forgiven a lesser effort over six furlongs last time and is more of a danger, but on a recent meeting has a bit to find with Outrage.
Outrage is by Exceed and Excel, out of the Cadeaux Genereux mare, Ludynosa. He races for Capture The Moment and will be led up by Ilse Belien.
