Thoughts on Todays Runners
Two runners today (Friday 19th of May) as Socrates is a non-runner in the 1.40 at Newmarket on account of the soft ground. First up is Flooded in the 4.15 at Newbury. Steve Drowne partners up with the rangy son of Archipenko on his debut in the ten furlong maiden. He was gelded following his misbehaviour prior to his intended debut in the winter and he has settled since then at home. We are looking for a good introduction for him in what looks on paper to be a very hot contest. The ground is likely to be very soft, he should handle some cut in the ground but this will be a real test on debut.
Of those that have run Nathan and Mabrook look useful whilst smartly bred debutants Dubai Thunder and Peterport certainly could be very useful if living up to their illustrious pedigrees.

Seneca Chief steps up to seven furlongs this evening in a classified race. Ben Curtis takes the ride in the 9.00 at Newcastle. Seneca Chief put up reasonable performances over shorter distances in maidens he was however a bit free and didn’t settle as well as he should. He has been fitted with a hood and seems more relaxed in it, it certainly improved his half sister who was similar and won a race when stepped up in trip fitted with a hood for us.
The race is trappy affair with several horses stepping out maidens into a race they should find much easier and this makes it slight guess work as to where exactly one should expect the most improvement. Pick of Any probably sets the standard and at least has a win to his name with respect also given to Cosmic Sky and the now gelded Highly Focuse who should appreciate the extra distance. The shortish price of My Girl Maisie may be significant for filly that hasn’t run for nearly a year and makes her debut handicap run.
