Thoughts on Today’s Runners

Three runners at Lingfield today as we look to build on Monday’s double.

Not After Midnight 1.40
A filly who showed great promise on her debut when finishing third in what looked a fair race at Windsor under today’s jockey George Downing . She showed signs of her in experience that day early on but finished with great effect and should be sharper today. Not After Midnight is well drawn and although ultimately she will want further she should be fine over six for now. This has been her target since before that race so fingers crossed it all comes together today.
Of her rivals only one of them has run so the biggest dangers are most likely to come from amongst the debutants. Prezzie was yearling we liked at the sales.

Av A Word 4.40
Av A Word finally got a deserved win having improved all spring last time out at Brighton. The drop back a furlong isn’t entirely ideal but there really weren’t many choices. Josie Gordon jumps back in the saddle for the nine furlong contest and I’m sure will be working hard towards the end of the race for a horse that keeps responding to pressure.

Permanent 4.40
Frustrating to have to run two against each other but most suitable race for both. Also drops back to nine furlongs, this time with George Downing on board. A frustrating horse who has shown only hints of his ability on the track and whose homework keeps improving. We’ve reached for the cheek pieces to keep him focused.

4.40 Race Analysis

It’s a competitive race with a couple of interesting handicap debutants – particularly About Glory who will find this totally different to some of the strongest maidens run this season. Epsom Secret and London Grammar are pr badly best of those with a bit more experience.
