Thoughts on today’s runners

Two runners today (Friday Jully 22nd), Elterwater lines up in the 1.45pm at Thirsk and Atlantic Heart in the 7.35pm at Chepstow.

Elterwater

Elterwater has her second start on the track today in a 7f Novice Fillies race. Darragh Keenan has his first ride for the yard. The daughter of Camelot gave her rivals a big head start when fluffing the break on her debut at Newbury. As a result was never able to get involved. She has done nice work at home and hopefully she gets the start right today and can show herself in a better light today.

Candle of Hope sets the standard on the basis of her debut win provided she is able to stay the extra furlong. The newcomers would look to be her main rivals on paper, with Gotta Show Me looking the most interesting.

Elterwater runs in the colours of owner and breeders Gary & Lesley Middlebrook and will be led up by Sammy Barnett who cares for her daily at home.

Atlantic Heart

Atlantic Heart will be ridden by Liam Keniry in the seven furlong handicap at Chepstow. The race has identical conditions to contes a fortnight ago that saw the filly miss on her first win by the narrowest of margins.

Essentially this is a rematch between Connie’s Rose and Atlantic Heart. Connie’s Rose just got the better of Atlantic Heart last time out in a tight finish. Connie’s Rose has won again since over six furlongs. Darcy’s Rock was second to Connie’s Rose in that race, and may appreciate the extra furlong today. Delahoussaye has had plenty of chances and bar a poor run last time has been relatively consistent. The drop back in trip could well be a plus looking at his stride data.

Atlantic Heart runs in the colours of Patrick O’Connor and will be led up by Tamsin Karn.
