Thoughts on todays runners

Two runners this afternoon (Friday 9th of June).

3.00 Seneca Chief – Pat Cosgrave, Wolverhampton

Seneca Chief bids to follow up his recent win at Chelmsford with Pat Cosgrave up in the saddle today for the five furlong handicap. A comprehensive win saw him raised ten pounds by the handicapper and he gets in here with a six pound penalty against a similar level of opposition albeit he faces some older rivals this time. He is drawn in nine which isn’t helpful but otherwise this looks a good opportunity to follow up.

The consistent Dandilion looks the biggest danger in this field although a good run from Essaka shouldn’t be written off dropped into this company if he can go well over five furlongs.

3.10 I Wouldn’t Bother – Graham Lee, Carlisle

I Wouldn’t Bother runs in a six furlong handicap. Built with each start in maidens last year but failed to improve for an extra furlong on his final start of the year over seven. He has been given a nice break since then and has taken quite a while to come to hand after getting sick earlier in the spring. This should be his trip and he is well drawn. He sports blinkers to just getting him fully focused (we did similar with his full sister for a couple of starts when she was in training before we were able to remove them). He also sports a tongue tie for the first time, this is really to stop him getting his tongue over the bit which was becoming a bad habit at one point. His full brother handled this type of going and he should go ok on it, hopefully the stiff track and the going don’t make it too much of a test.

My Girl Maisie probably sets the standard here with the handicap debutant Zone In a potential threat dropped back after showing up well for a long way last time in a maiden over further.
