Thoughts on today’s runners
A busy Tuesday with four runners across three meetings. Elterwater & L’enclume at Kempton, Lil Guff at Chelmsford and Eminent Angel at Wolverhampton.
Elterwater
Elterwater runs in a Novice Fillies race over a mile at 2.00pm, Jack Mitchell rides.
A well bred big scopey filly Elterwater has shown potential at home and will improve as a three year old. Her first start was a bit of a non-event when she missed the break. Second time out she was starting to get the hang of things and should take another step forward this morning.
An open looking race. One suspects there are many in it that are capable of improving on their early runs and the debutants could well be quite smart taking a glance at their pedigrees. Sherbert Fountain is un-raced but costs plenty at the breeze up sales which will have given her valuable experience of the wider world. She holds entries and it would be no surprise to see her make a bright start to her career. Barrier has a nice pedigree and is another interesting debutant. Perfect Prophet and Oriental Dancer should both build their debuts.
Elterwater runs in the colours of owner breeders Gary & Lesley Middlebrook and will be led up by Sammy Barnett who cares for her at home.
L’enclume
Next up will be L’enclume lining up at 4.30pm under Kieran Shoemark. She is a course and distance winner and slips to a slightly easier grade for the first time in handicap company. She could never land a blow from the back of the field in a slowly run race last time out. She sports a first time tongue tie.
A competitive handicap, Limited Edition is competitive at this level and the extra furlong should be a positive for him. Militry Decoration and Hashtagmetoo are similar at this sort of level. It perhaps makes more sense to look to the three year olds in the field as the most likely winners as they are open to further improvement. Spit Spot makes her first foray into handicap looks the obvious starting point on that front. Tidal Storm takes an ease in grade and is still lightly raced and is another to be involved.
L’enclume runs in the colours of owner breeders Gary & Lesley Middlebrook and will be led up by James Pulley who cares for her at home.
Lil Guff
Lil Guff runs in a six furlong handicap. Luke Morris rides. She had been really consistent this season before a below par run at Glorious Goodwood, things didn’t really fall for her that day which didn’t help. She’s an all weather winner and this looks easier than some of the more high profile meeting she has run at.
Aphelios makes his debut for new connections and had a progressive profile for previous ones. Open Mind is a course and distance winner and will probably appreciate the drop in trip and class.
Lil Guff runs for owner and breeder Wayne Clifford and will be led up by Epona Miller who rides and cares for her daily.
Eminent Angel
Eminent Angel is the final runner of the day at 7.10pm, Nicola Currie rides. A filly who is bred to be a bit quicker than what she has shown to date, she does seem very genuine so hopefully can get competitive over this longer trip.
Not a huge amount of quality recent form to go on in the field. Jenny Ren looks reasonably consistent at a modest level. While Gold Standard is an obvious contender on his all weather form, even if his recent turf form leaves a bit to be desired.
Eminent Angel is another running for owner breeders Gary & Lesley Middlebrook. She will be led up by Ilse Belien who cares for her daily at home.
