Thoughts on Today’s Runners at Wolverhampton
Two runners at Wolverhampton today (11th October). Viva Madiba is up first in the 6.50. Thomas Brown takes the ride 6 furlong maiden. Viva Madiba ran well to a point on her first start, she was slightly reluctant to load which was a bit of surprise as she has always been good at home and it was probably a case of being overawed by the whole experience. Green early in the race she travelled well once she got into her stride before fitness told in the in final furlong and she tired. She should have come on for the run and can hopefully take another step forward.
Viva Madiba’s race appears to revolve around one horse, Encore D’or who ran a very good race on debut but was disappointing next time out. If he matches that initial start he will be very hard to beat.
Bailiwick runs in the 8.50. Richard Kingscote takes the ride in the 6 furlong maiden. Bailwick finished second debut after missing the break and then travelling widest of all round the bend over course and distance and should have improved plenty for the experience. A pretty laid back character by nature he takes everything in his stride so its hard to know how much he has come on for the run but he looks trimmer, there is still a bit to come. He ran as if a step up to seven furlongs at some stage might be a sensible step.
As with many maidens for older horses at this time of year there are quite a few exposed runners who haven’t managed to break their duck yet in this race. Knockroon has some solid form although he hasn’t run for nearly five months and was a bit disappointing when last seen. Foxcover has been placed in both his starts and looks the most likely winner and one shouldn’t discount Moiety who is an interesting debutant from a very fast family.
