Thoughts on Wednesday Runners
Starting the month with two runners for the team on Wednesday 1st May. First up will be Hilltop who is making her handicap debut at Wolverhampton in the 3.35pm 6 furlong Fillies Handicap, Tom Eaves will be taking the ride. Lil Guff then lines up at Ascot in the 4.00pm 5 furlong handicap. William Buick is back on board this filly today, having won on her last year.
HILLTOP
Hilltop showed a bit more in a slowly run race on her third start and has probably been given a mark which flatters her a little bit. Now she’s had some racing experience she should be a bit sharper and can cope with the drop in trip.
The race features a some in form types, Gogo Yubari has great form over five furlongs and that might be her best trip, her six furlong win coming at Lingfield which is sharper than Wolverhampton. Mammy will appreciate coming back in trip. Cervaro Della Sala is another that has been consistent.
Hilltop runs for owners Gary and Lesley Middlebrook who also bred the filly. She will be led up today by James Pulley.
LIL GUFF
Lil Guff was up against it in listed company last time out and wasn’t helped by getting stuck with nowhere to go at a critical moment. However, back in this grade she can make her presence felt. The faster the ground gets the better her chances will be.
This looks fiercely competitive despite the race splitting. Of those with race fitness Isle of Lismore was ahead of Lil Guff on their seasonal debuts. Thunder Star is another with a run and will enjoy the ground if it remains soft. Kuwait City is a danger in this grade. Several are making their seasonal debuts Jumbeau probably is better over further, but has classy form. Brave Nation took on tougher task than this for most of his three year old season and is another to look out for.
Lil Guff runs in the colours of owner Wayne Clifford and was bred by Sarah Clifford at their Byerley Stud. She will be led up by Epona Miller who rides and cares for her daily at home.
