Thoughts on Who’sthedaddy today
Who’sthedaddy runs in the 2.10 at Kempton today (22nd September). Thomas Brown rides in the mile and a quarter maiden. Who’sthedaddy has been disappointing in both his starts to date, running very green and not really showing very much at all. We have gelded him and this has certainly improved his work at home. He seems more focused and switched on to what is expected and hopefully should run a much better race. He has grown a lot over the summer and should make into a lovely three year old and this will probably be his last run for the season. He is drawn wide which is not ideal as he seems to travel much better in amongst horses so we are stuck with a choice of rushing forward or dropping in and hoping for a bit of luck. The distance is a long way for a two year old and there is a concern whether he is really strong enough to stay this far yet, but it should give him a chance of getting involved in most of the race which he hasn’t really done so far in his career.
Being the first race of the season for two year olds over this distance this is a big step into the unknown for all of them and its difficult to know exactly which horses will relish the distance. Forza Blacky looks an obvious contendor with a decent run last time and certainly ought to be a stayer in time given his breeding. Framley Garth has plenty of racing experience over shorter but should have the fitness to cope with this challenge although perhaps not an obvious stayer. Classic Villager ran well on Saturday over nine furlongs and could be a player although this is a sharp turn around for a two year old over this sort of trip.
