Views on Cobbs Quay’s chances and pedigrees for horses purchased this week at the sales

Cobbs Quay returns to Wolverhampton tonight for the 7.20 (Saturday 20th of October). He steps up in distance to a mile and half for the first time for us, once again Simon Pearce who gets the best out of the horse takes the ride. He was a little unlucky last week after being drawn wide and forced to sit stone last in a slowly run race and just couldn’t quite make up the ground on the winner who came from the front – going down less than a length in a close contest. He certainly looked as if the extra distance wouldn’t harm his chances last time round.

The race is difficult to weigh up as the lightly raced Mutual Regard will definitely improve for the significant extra distance and this is his first start in a handicap. Unex Renoir showed ability once upon a time and another new set of connections may improve his form, this is the lowest grade he has ever faced. Schmooze and Annelko both have good recent course and distance form and should ensure it is a decent contest for the grade if the lesser known quantities previously mentioned fail to deliver.

We had a busy week at the sales and picked up two really nice yearlings. The first a strapping colt by Royal Applause is from the family of Camelot. The colts dam won the Lingfield Oaks trial and he impressed from the very first moment he stepped out of his stable on the sales ground. He has a great stride to him and an excellent temperament and looks a really classy type. He is for a partnership and there is just one 25% share left in the horse. The second horse we bought is for a syndicate that still has a couple of spaces left so do get in contact if you are interested in further details and we can get you involved. She is a half sister to Windsor Castle Stakes winner Marine Commando – so there is every reason to believe she has a shot of being a Royal Ascot two year old, her sire has produced several horses who have performed superbly as juveniles including Cheveley Park winner Donna Blini and another Windsor Castle stakes winner Tabaret. Her huge powerful backend and pedigree point to pure speed and being an early type our dreams are focused firmly on a big day next June.
