Views on Sherman McCoys chances and thoughts on Multi Fours perfomance

Multi Fours was bitterly disappointing on her handicap debut this evening (Wednesday 23rd January). She missed the break and then sulked in behind for much of the race and didn’t appear to put in much effort. She will be doing some stalls work and we’ll try some head gear on her but she needs to put in a better effort next time out or a new career will be beckoning.

Sherman McCoy runs in the 6.50 at Kempton tomorrow evening (Thursday 24th January). William Twiston Davies will ride him again and should have a good feel for him at this stage having ridden him in two of his last three starts. His last run was very good and he was just beaten in the final strides of the race. The return to two miles should be ok for him as he looks like he can stay all day and really digs in and tries in at the business end of the race. There has to be a concern about the standard to slow surface as he definitely has preference for top of the ground. That said he has run well at Southwell in the past. It should help him that he enjoys sitting close to the pace as in recent days it has been apparent that with the all weather tracks riding slower than usual its is an advantage to be near the front of the pack. He is well drawn to be able to go forward in the race.

The race looks wide open, recent winners Honourable Knight and Coup De Grace merit respect, although this is a stiffer task for the latter. If Buckie Boy consents to race he could be a big danger having shown some good form hurdling for his trainer, who doesn’t run many on the flat. Ginger Fizz finished ahead of Sherman McCoy on her most recent start at Lingfield and although Sherman was hampered that day there probably isn’t a huge amount between the two. For the punters Sherman McCoy probably represents reasonable value at the forecast 8-1.
