Wedding, Spin Again declared
A very busy weekend as we got married on Saturday in the spectacular setting of Claire’s childhood home, it was an incredible day and thank you to everyone for their kind words and wishes we really appreciate it. Also a huge thanks to our team who did a great job of enabling us to get away for a couple of days and really enjoy it.
Friday night was a little disappointing as the writing was on the wall for Cobbs Quay from a long way out and he got very tired on energy sapping ground. He showed good enthusiasm for a long way and should come on a bit for the run.
Spin Again has been declared to run in the 6.50 at Kempton on Tuesday evening, regular pilot Richard Kingscote is unavailable so we have secured Mickael Barzalona to ride for us again. It was disappointing to see a somewhat critical article in the Racing Post this morning commenting on his English speaking skills. Whilst he does struggle a bit he is clearly making a massive effort and really did a great job talking to the owners put a lot of time in after the race discussing the horse and the race. In six months time he will be fine. Daniel’s time in France with Francois Doumen helps on the odd tricky word. We’ll be using him when he isn’t required by Godolphin if we can. Tuesday evening is a bit of a fact finding mission as Spin Again drops in trip, we aren’t quite sure if he has the speed for six furlongs, hopefully he won’t get taken off his feet. His homework and his early speed when racing over seven shows he can put in a very quick fractions – sustaining it is a different challenge, he may also struggle to lead as he does over seven although we are drawn well. It would certainly help if he could be competitive over six as it would open more options over the next few weeks.
Alezanna and Great Charm worked together nicely over 7 Furlongs last week, below is a short clip of them as they enter the final furlong up the stiff mile gallop.
