Weekly Round Up
It was back into the swing of things after the festive period. With most of the team having got a few days break everyone is refreshed and looking forward to 2016.
The horses are all back into their usual routines. The yearlings are all cantering on the gallops and getting to know the starting stalls.
Solent Meads on the gallops and walking through the stalls
The older horses are at various stages of training, some returning from a winter break others in full work for all weather runs. We had two arrivals this week, Silhouette returned from Devon where he has been with owner Stuart Lake for a break following a gelding operation. His mind really wasn’t on the job during his two starts last year and hopefully he will now put more effort into running rather than being a bit too interested in his rivals!
We went to collect Paul and Clare Rooney’s Captain Gerrard colt out of Dalmunzie from Richard Kent’s Mickley Stud in Shropshire. Richard is a fantastic host and gave a us a real tour of the horses on the farm.
The colt we collected is a full brother to You’re My Cracker who won money on every start for the yard last year when she proved very consistent throughout her campaign. She is still on a break as she wants quick ground so there is no point rushing her back too soon. She looked in excellent health and has really filled out and strengthened over the winter. Amongst the other stock is another full sibling to You’re My Cracker and this two year old, who has just become a yearling. Richard stands a few stallions as well which he took the time to show us. It was interesting to see Multiplex as we have a sharp looking two year old filly by the sire out of Dress Design and he is going to cover Anse Victorin whose son Mont Signal was a winner for the yard our first when we came to Lambourn.
Heerat who covered over a 100 mares in his first season was one that particularly caught the eye. A good looking son of Dark Angel who is establishing himself as one of Ireland’s leading stallions he was a tough race horse who won five races.
