Weekly Round Up

This is the time of year a flat yard is getting busy with plenty of horses in work and although there isn’t much action on the track the hard yards are all being done on the gallops. Pat and Jill Whitten popped in to see their two year old colt Jack Blane (Kheleyf ex. Blane Water), who looks like he will be a fun two year old. Whilst he won’t be especially early due to a mid April foaling date he is developing nicely. His half sister Trinity River was a fun filly who won once and was placed five times in her eight starts at two.

We also had the February Sales at Tattersalls. On what was a marathon day selling in Newmarket on Thursday it was good to catch up with lots of people in the industry as the day kicks off with a stallion parade that sees lots of the British based stallions parading before the auction starts. We took Karnage to the sale and were delighted to purchase him from the existing owners at 10.15 at night as the penultimate lot in the ring of around 350. We are very much of the feeling that there is more to come from the strapping son of Lawman who looked good when stretching clear in his most recent start to notch his first win. The application of blinkers galvanised and he should be fun in the coming months. There has been plenty of interest in the partnership to race him so get in touch if you are interested as we will finalise it tomorrow.

The only runner of the week was Who’sthedaddy who missed the break on Friday night at Wolverhampton in what has been a frustrating all weather campaign. In first time blinkers he was more interested in trying to see the horse next to him in the stalls and was totally unprepared for the gates opening – a bit frustrating as it was obvious and he was right under the starters nose. It was an uphill struggle from there. Despite the disadvantage one has to draw the conclusion that he is best on fast turf and he will therefore have a decent break until the middle of summer.

On arrivals front it was great to have Outrage return. Having been gelded over the winter this lightly raced son of Exceed and Excel can hopefully progress as a four year old this summer. He looks to have grown and strengthened significantly. He won his maiden on his second start at Windsor and was undone by inexperience when third on his handicap debut last summer. A tricky horse to train due to an accident as a yearling he is lightly raced it is to be hoped that we can get a clearer run with him as he has shown some serious pace at home. Time is often the best healer and hopefully he can improve as the year goes on.

Outrage winning at Windsor, a special day for the team as it was the culmination of a lot of hard work on the horse and also our first double.
