Winner – Chitra
Chitra brought up the second victory of her six race career yesterday afternoon at Redcar. Ridden by former champion jockey Paul Hanagan the tough two year old flew from the gates and although briefly headed in the middle of the race stuck to her task gamely to win going away in the six furlong contest which featured 18 runners.
Bred and raced by Gary and Lesley Middlebrook Chitra is by first season sire Sea the Moon who was a top class mile and a half son of Sea the Stars. She is out of the the unraced Shamardal mare Persian Star. Persian Star is a half sister to the multiple stakes placed Penny Drops and Prompter. Penny Drops has a cracking Dark Angel Colt heading to Book 2 at the upcoming Tattersalls yearling sales.
Chitra does qualify for a very valuable Tattersalls sales race at Newmarket in ten days and although that will be a tougher race the rewards are tempting. Especially as she looks to be ideally suited by the race conditions, something that a lot of the sales graduates would not be. Yesterday’s jockey Paul Hanagan was very impressed with the fillies great attitude and enthusiasm for racing.
For the moment six furlongs is working perfectly for the filly but her pedigree certainly suggests she should be able to get further in time which may open up some interesting options.
Well done to all the team at home.
