Winner – Percy’s Lad
Percy’s Lad ran out a very brave winner of the £46,000 feature class 2 handicap at Chester on Saturday afternoon. He broke the track record in the process. Tom Eaves let the horse bowl along in front in front and set nice fractions. The gelding has shown a slight tendency to over race in the past, looked relaxed and found a nice rhythm. Although he faced a sustained challenge from a progressive three year old he showed determination to keep his head in front at the line. The four year old took his record to 3 wins from 6 starts since joining the yard.
Percy’s Lad will face a rise from the handicapper on Tuesday. We will have to ponder his next step, there are lots of good handicaps open to him in the coming weeks. We may also consider some listed options as they tend to get small fields. He seems to enjoy dominating a field so the stye of race may suit him better than big field handicaps.
Congratulations to owner Alan Kerr. Many thanks to all the team for their hard work. Percy’s Lad was purchased at the Autumn horses in training sale at Tattersalls in Newmarket last year, together with Sam Haggas of Hurworth Bloodstock.
