Winner – Zulu Girl

Zulu Girl ran out a very game winner at Brighton yesterday afternoon over a mile to record her first victory. Nicola Currie gave Colin & Trish Fletcher-Hall’s four year old filly an excellent ride, breaking well from a wide draw and forcing a relentless pace, looking in trouble briefly coming down the hill Nicola kept the filly balanced and asked her for a final effort on the climb up the hill and she was well on top by the line despite a strong challenge from the hat-trick seeking Dawn View.

Zulu Girl is a new recruit to the yard having come from another trainer, analysis of her genetics and stride patterns led to us increasing the distance she runs over which saw her make a bright start when second at Brighton, the race didn’t really pan out for her on her second start for the yard at Lingfield. Yesterday was her third start for us and she showed a great attitude and can hopefully go on and win more races, she looked as if she may be able stay another couple of furlongs at some point.

Many thanks to Colin and Trish for giving us the opportunity to train this filly, who joins the growing list of horses (particularly fillies) who have benefitted for the switch to Sarsen Farm. Zulu Girl was bred by Whatton Manor Stud and came to us via a break at Byerley Stud. Thanks to all the team, especially groom Ilse Belien and travelling manager Shaun Johnson who rides her the majority of the time at home.
